William Phillips

William A Phillips, 93, of Bloomington, Indiana died peacefully on March 14, 2026 in Nashville, Indiana.

Born June 3, 1932, Bill was born and raised in Alpena. He graduated from Alpena High School, where he excelled in basketball and football. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. He retired in 1992 from teaching Engineering Drafting at the Bay Arenac Skill Center in Bay City, Michigan.

He proudly served his country with the Michigan National Guard and the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 as a Specialist Third Class in Special Services at Big Delta Army base, Alaska.

Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed deeply by his family. He attended Bloomington Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, sports, especially golfing, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors when needed.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, the former Jacqueline Shenk, whom he married in Big Delta, Alaska in 1955. God richly blessed them with 70 years of married life together. Also surviving are his son Robert Phillips, Bloomington and grandchildren Ian Phillips, Bloomington and Yvette Phillips, Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Phillips Nolting, and siblings Gary and Richard Phillips.

Mr. Phillips chose to support the advancement of Medical Science by donating his body for medical research to the Anatomical Education Program of Indiana University School of Medicine.

A Celebration of Life with Pastor Deron Colgan officiating will be held at the Bloomington Free Methodist Church on Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m.
