Marilyn Fortner

Marilyn Helen Kihn was born on Oct. 21, 1944, to the late Richard and Helen (Bey) Kihn in Detroit. Raised in Alpena, left as a teenager and married the late Larry Fortner on Sept. 11, 1972. She was a devoted housewife and mother, raised her family downstate, moving back to Alpena in 1988. Marilyn volunteered as a senior companion at Medilodge for many years. During the 23 years she lived at Folwer Apartments, she enjoyed hosting many potluck dinners and Bingo parties.

Surviving are her daughters, Melissa Hantzis, Karrie (Lynwood) Lietzke, Michelle Huey; son, Brian Fortner; grandchildren, Andreas, Dimitri, Eleni, Ryan, Brandon, Samuel, Mario, Mikayla, Brooklyn, Robert, Jessica, Meagan; sister, Karen Blackwell and was loved and missed by many family and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Robert “Todd” Kihn; son-in-law, Alex Hantzis; grandson, Alekos, and sister, Virginia Kihn.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A private graveside service will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery.
