Roger Van Rhee

Roger was born on Dec. 14, 1954, in Grand Rapids to the late John and Annette (Meyer) Van Rhee and raised in Jamestown. On Aug. 15, 1981, he married Jill Throop. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church – Alpena, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, doing yardwork, anything outdoors. Roger worked as a heavy equipment operator, working on many significant projects including many roadways, various infrastructure projects, the Bay Harbor and Grand Haven break walls to name a few he was proud of.

Surviving are his wife, Jill; daughter, Melissa (David) Jagst; granddaughter, Jenna Jagst; two brothers, Dale (Carol) Van Rhee, Jack (Marisue) Van Rhee; several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by three brothers, infant, Bennie Van Rhee, Arlan Van Rhee and Larry Van Rhee.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at Herm’s Camp on May 2, 2026, starting at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan or First United Methodist Church – Alpena.
