Judith Cook
Judith Ann Cook, age 89, of Alpena, died on Feb. 16, 2026. A woman of many talents and a deep love for her family, Judy leaves behind a legacy of service, creativity, and warmth.
Judy was born in East Jordan, Michigan, on June 5, 1936, to the late Arnold Dedoes and Isadore Peck. On Feb. 7, 1959, she married the love of her life, Thomas Cook, with whom she built a beautiful life and home in Alpena.
Judy was a woman of diverse interests. In her younger years, she was a cheerleader at Eastern Michigan University. Throughout her life, she found joy in the simple and the soulful: she was an avid cook, a lover of antiques, and a skilled artisan who enjoyed refinishing furniture. She was also a member of a Bridge Club and stayed active in local circles as a doctor’s wife, often found providing solutions and support “up all night” when duty called. Above all, she took great pride in her primary roles as a mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Thomas Cook; her children, Susan (Armando) Ortiz, John (Valerie) Cook, and JB (Teri) Cook; her daughter-in-law, Ilene, and her siblings, Nancy, John, and Bob. She was preceded in death by her son Brad, and her brother, Jerry.
Judy’s spark lives on through her grandchildren: Ana, Elena, Marta, Mason, Sam, Jack, and Lucy; and her great-grandchildren: Desmond, and Cecilia.
Judy is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the First Congregational Church in Alpena on Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Richard Hotchkin officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to the Friends of the Alpena Farmers Market at P.O Box 123, Alpena, MI 49707. Online condolences can be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com
