With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Charles T. (Chuck) Manning on Feb. 2, 2026, from glioblastoma brain cancer.
Chuck was born on Oct. 7, 1957, in Alpena, the fifth child of Jane (Roznowski) and Hugh Manning, Sr. Chuck graduated from Alpena High School in 1975. His close friends from school remained a part of his life throughout the years.
On Aug. 25, 1979, he married Brenda McGirr. They had two children; Kari (Ken) Rundell and Brad Manning; two granddaughters; Kaitlyn and Aubrie Klein. Brenda passed away in July 2016. On Jan. 1, 2019, Chuck married Jean (Elliot-Hill). They enjoyed travel, golf, and all of life’s adventures. Jean survives his passing along with her two children; Elliot Basner, Jorgia Basner-May and their families. Chuck’s career was in banking. He served the communities of Alpena, Lewiston, Atlanta and Hillman where he became a Vice-President of Chemical Bank. He was honored as the Hillman Citizen of the Year in 2020.
Chuck was the owner of “Chuckster’s Guns”. Guns were his passion and he enjoyed repairing, shooting, hunting, and selling guns. He was a very active member of the Hillman Sportsman’s Club for many years and taught gun safety classes.
Chuck’s sisters survive his passing: Patricia Schultz, Elaine Preuss, and Julie (Chuck) Wiesen. He had many close friends and touched the lives of so many in his community.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, brother Hugh Manning Jr, brothers-in-law Harry Schultz and Alan Preuss.
Chuck was a loving and happy guy. He enjoyed having a meal with friends, playing golf, hunting, boating, cooking and being with family.
Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home – Alpena on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial service at noon with Pastor Todd Meece officiating.
