Orrin McConnell

Orrin Lee McConnell, affectionately known as Orri, exemplified the words faith and kindness.

Born on Feb. 26, 1932, to the late Orrin and Fern (Rosebeck) McConnell, Orri was a lifelong resident of Alpena, where he also peacefully passed away on Jan. 11, 2026.

Orri’s journey through life was marked by love, service, and dedication. He was a proud graduate of Alpena High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for his future. On July 20, 1952, he married his beloved wife, Ruth Dinsmore, at Trinity Episcopal Church, a union blessed with love and companionship until her passing on June 13, 2021.

A patriot at heart, Orri served his country with honor in the Air Force, cherishing the time he spent in service. His work ethic shone brightly at Fletcher Paper, where he dedicated many years until his well-earned retirement. Orri’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a long-time member of New Life Christian Fellowship, living out his beliefs through his actions and words.

Orri’s life was enriched by his family, who he adored and supported with unwavering love. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Karen McConnell; grandchildren, Keith Konecki, Scott (Alicia) McConnell, and Nicole McConnell; great-grandchildren, Fern and Lillian McConnell; sister, Janet (Roy) Bernson; niece, Darcie McConnell; sister’s-in-law, Jeannine McConnell, Ervlene Lee, Karen Rowell and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Konecki; son, Brent; brother, Darryl; sister, Shirlaine; and nephews, Eugene Repke and Ty Bernson.

Orri’s interests reflected his love for the outdoors and his handy nature. He was happiest in the woods, chainsaw in hand, or when he was hunting and fishing. His love for auctions was well-known, as was his ability to fix anything that needed repair. Orri’s love for people was evident in the way he always put others first, and his dog Sassie was a cherished companion.

Those who knew Orri would describe him as faith-filled and handy, a man whose actions spoke of his commitment to his values and community. His presence was a comfort to many, and his legacy is one of selflessness and devotion.

As we bid farewell to Orrin Lee McConnell, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched so many others with its warmth and generosity. Orri’s memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have felt his kindness and love.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home. Visiting will resume on Thursday at New Life Christian Fellowship from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Smith officiating.
