Joanne Montie

Joanne Montie, lovingly known as Joan, died peacefully on Jan. 26, 2026, at the age of 95, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, care, and devotion. Born in Alpena on Feb. 19, 1930, Joanne’s life was woven from the fabric of her deep commitment to family, faith, and community.

Joanne dedicated many years of her life to her career as a seamstress, but above all, she found her true calling as a homemaker. Her nurturing spirit ensured that everyone around her felt cared for and cherished. Whether it was through her delicious meals, her beautifully crafted quilts, or the love she poured into her gardening, Joanne had a remarkable way of making everyone feel special. For many years she was the 4-H leader for Sewing.

On Oct. 30, 1948, she married the love of her life, Clarence Montie, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of family. Although she was preceded in death by Clarence, her spirit continues to shine through the lives of their children: Mary Lou Winton of South Carolina, Katherine (Eric) Mazzi of Pennsylvania, Anthony Montie of Alpena, Nancy (Fred) Robarge of Minnesota, Bonnie (Sean) Lee of Chicago, and Susan Gere of Florida.

Joanne was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Michelle, Joanna, Tina (Chris), Tony Jr. (Brittany), and Travis, and a loving great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren: Gage, Chelsea, Caitlyn, Aiden, Arabella, Bella, Brock, Brynn, Joseph Jr., and Nicholas, and a great great grandchild, Stevie. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the time spent with them, weaving memories together that will be treasured forever.

Her unwavering faith played a pivotal role in her life. A dedicated member of All Saints parish, she was actively involved in church activities and prayer such as the All Saints Catholic Women’s group. Joanne took great pride in being a devoted Catholic and prayed the rosary daily, a testament to her deep spiritual connection.

Joanne’s warmth encompassed not only her family but also her friends and community. She was known for her kindness, consideration, and unyielding love. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched, including her beloved friends.

Joanne is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Montie; her son, Dennis Montie; her brothers, Joe, Phillip, Victor, Richard, and Daniel; and her sister, Genivieve. As we celebrate her life, let us remember the laughter, joy, and love she brought to this world. May her spirit continue to inspire those who loved her, guiding them with the same tenderness she offered throughout her life.

Visitation will be held at A.E. Ross Funeral Home in Alpena on Feb. 3, 2026, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., with prayer of the Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Feb. 4, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. With Fr. Emmanuel Finbarr as celebrant. Joanne will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Hospice of Michigan for their wonderful care. A special thank you to Kristen, Loretta, Karen, Tina, Michael, Kristie, and Paula, your kindness and compassion were greatly appreciated.

Though Joanne has departed from this world, her legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she has left behind.
