Dr. Dana D. Panknin

Dana was born July 7, 1949 in Alpena to the late Irwin and Norma (Zanter) Panknin.

Dana graduated from Alpena High School in 1967. She earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology at Michigan State University, later her master’s in human genetics, and eventually enrolled at University of Michigan medical school graduating in August of 1976. She did her residency at a family practice at Flint St. Joseph Hospital before starting her own practice here in Alpena.

Dana enjoyed bluegrass music, playing piano, and photography. She was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Dr. Panknin is survived by her son Ryan.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 12pm until the time of the funeral Service at 1pm with Rev. John Shipman officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Huron Humane Society. McWilliams Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
