Douglas Lawrence

Douglas George Lawrence, age 81, of Black River, died and peacefully entered eternity on Jan. 9, 2026.

Douglas was born on June 5, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Taylor, Michigan. He graduated from Taylor Center High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Detroit College of Business. Douglas worked for many years in the automotive industry, employed by both General Motors and Ford Motor Company. After retiring up north, he continued to serve others by substitute teaching in the Alpena and Alcona County school districts.

Douglas had a deep and abiding love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He faithfully served at Northland Baptist Church in Ossineke, where his faith and dedication were evident to all who knew him. He especially enjoyed singing, with a fondness for quartet music, and found great joy and peace fishing for bass.

Beloved husband of Priscilla; dear father of Duane Lawrence (Lynn) and Wendy Hollon (Jeffrey). He was a proud and loving grandfather to the Lawrence boys: Nathan, Riley and Caleb and the Hollon clan: Joshua, Hannah and Sarah and a cherished great-grandfather to Charlotte and Eliah. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen (Terry) Trumitch; Rose Richardson (Tony); Joyce Franks (Patrick); Evelyn Carter; and Lois Jackson (Michael); and his brothers, Richard, Michael, and Phillip.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sr. and Mary Lawrence; his parents-in-law, George and Charlotte Golden; his brother, Harvey Jr. (Pat) Lawrence; and his sisters, Janice Deinhart and Frances Winegarden.

Douglas will be remembered for his faith, his love for family, and his kind, gentle, giving spirit.

Visitation will be at Beacon Baptist Church 21721 Northline Rd. Taylor, MI on Friday Jan. 16, 2026 4 to 7 p.m. with the funeral immediately following at 7 p.m.
