Barbara Chapman
Barbara Lynn Chapman age 70, daughter of the late Raymond and Marion Osmer of Alpena, died and has gracefully taken her place among the stars. Born Aug. 18, 1955, Barbara was one of six siblings–Sandra (David) Lethbridge, Nancy Hines, Debra Bowar, Donald Osmer, and Robert Osmer.
Barbara married the love of her life, the late Flemmie Chapman Sr., and together they built a family filled with warmth and joy. She was the devoted stepmother of Sandra (Heather) Stufflebeam and Flemmie (Michelle) Chapman Jr. Her heart overflowed with pride for her grandchildren Danielle Hassan and Kyle Chapman, and her three great grandchildren–Eric, Ethan, and Evelyn–who were the absolute delight of her days.
After retiring from The University of Michigan, Barbara settled in Harvest, Alabama, where she lived with her sister Debra Bowar. Retirement didn’t slow her down; she filled her days with gardening, baking, shelling on the beach, collecting Petoskey stones, painting, and playing cards and games–always surrounded by family, which was her greatest treasure.
She leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews; Jessie, Amber, Jonathan, Jimmy, Kenny, Jennifer and Lee including her namesake Barbara (Lowell) Sigler, and great nieces and nephews Elisha, Aria, and Isabell, all of whom will carry her spirit forward.
Barbara’s life was a tapestry of love, humor, and creativity. She taught us that family is everything, that a good margarita can fix almost any problem, and that laughter is the best medicine. Though she has left this world, her legacy of joy and kindness will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
