Thomas Edward Fochtman, born on January 22, 1947, in Alpena, Michigan, passed away on October 24, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center. He was 78 years old and is remembered for his unwavering dedication and contributions to both his family and community.

For over 30 years, Thomas owned and operated Northern Tool in Alpena, a business that became a staple in the region under his leadership. He was known for his kindness, care, and hard work, embodying the spirit of a hardworking husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty and service. Beyond his professional life, he had a passion for fishing, even if he occasionally came home empty-handed. He spent countless hours building, repairing, and improving various projects, always striving to enhance things, making them better than they were. Thomas was proud to be a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for many years, an honor that highlighted his commitment to faith and community service.

A devoted family man, Thomas married the love of his life, Linda Serre, on September 14, 1968, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Their love story spanned over 57 years, during which they created a loving family together. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Christopher (Kim Paczkowski) of Alpena and Alissa Fochtman; and his cherished grandchild, Bailey Fochtman. He is also survived by his siblings, Marcia Zinjer, Pat Niepoth, Jim (Jane) Fochtman, Bob Fochtman, and Mike Fochtman, along with his sister-in-law, Joan Fochtman.

He was preceded in death by his brother Eugene and sister Jane Smith, who will also be remembered fondly by those who knew them.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will carry his legacy forward in their hearts. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 2:00 PM at A.E. Ross Funeral Home in Alpena. The Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery following the prayer service.

Thomas Edward Fochtman’s life was one dedicated to service, love, and improvement, leaving behind a rich legacy for those who knew him.
