Charles Gohl
Charles Howard Gohl, 89, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025 with his loving daughters at his side.
Charles was born on June 18, 1936 to the late Frederick and Ruth (Carr) Gohl. His father, Frederick, served and died in World War II, after which Charles was fortunate to have a second father, Lloyd Daugherty, who played a significant role in his upbringing. He was the devoted husband to his wife of 62 years, Grace, who preceded him in death just weeks before him. Together, they raised a family that included their children, Kimberly Gohl, Pamela (Dave) Fox, and the late Brad Gohl. Charles was a proud grandfather to Stehness, Shelby (Tom), Kira, Sam, and Marcus, and a doting great-grandfather to Ervin III, Kenny, and Atticus. Charles’s siblings, Wayne (Shirley) Gohl, Marigold Piper, and sister-in-law Connie Gohl, will hold dear the memories of their brother, while he is also preceded in death by his brothers Larry and Ronald Gohl, and Donald Flury.
His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he nurtured each relationship with care and affection. Charles enlisted in the Army out of High School before going on to sail the Great Lakes. He later spent many years at Huron Portland Cement before showcasing his skills as a welder at Eagle Engineering. Beyond his professional life, Charles enjoyed golfing, hunting, and was an enthusiastic dancer. He had a particular fondness for thrift shopping, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. A member of the American Legion, Charles was proud of his association and the camaraderie he found there. His memory will be treasured forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
Charles is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Military honors will be accompanied by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2496 beginning at 4 p.m. with the funeral service officiated by Jerry Broad following.
