William Hyde

William S. Hyde, died on Aug. 12, 2025, in Alpena, Michigan. Bill was born on Oct. 10, 1935, in Afton, Michigan, to Clyde and Thelma Hyde.
On Dec. 6, 1958, Bill married the love of his life, Sharon Davis. Less than a month later he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After his two years of service, he and Sharon soon moved to Alpena. He was a man who would become deeply involved in his community and work. He dedicated many years of service as a lineman and switchman for General Telephone and Electronics, showcasing his commitment to hard work and excellence. His professional life was marked by a strong sense of duty and an unwavering work ethic.
Bill’s leadership was felt in various organizations, where he served with distinction for a decade as the Thunder Bay Labor Council president. His dedication to service extended to his roles as a board member at NEMROC, and his participation on the County Board of Canvassers, County Planning, and Jury Commissions. Bill’s love for baseball led him to participate in the Alpena area men’s baseball league. Later, he became an assistant coach for Little League team Local 209, where he mentored young athletes with the same passion he brought to every aspect of his life.
Bill’s commitment to his fellow workers was evident through his involvement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He held significant positions on the executive board and served as the recording secretary for locals 1190 and 1106, advocating for the rights and welfare of his colleagues.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill found solace and joy in hunting and fishing. He kept his hands busy with gardening and the intricate work of restoring Model A cars, a hobby that brought him immense satisfaction and recognition.
He was a devoted father to Brian (Cyndi) Hyde and Lisa (Seth) Hyde-Mindell. Though his baby son Kerry Hyde preceded him in death, Bill’s memory lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Heather, Danielle, Max, Samantha, Jack, and several beloved nieces and nephews who will remember his loving guidance and wisdom.
He is survived by his brother, Larry (Carol) Hyde, and brother-in-law, Larry LeCureaux. Bill now joins his late wife Sharon, parents, Clyde and Thelma Hyde, and his siblings, Claude (Gail) Hyde, Barbara (Duane) Badder and Karen LeCureaux in eternal rest.
Bill is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, from 11 a.m. until Masonic Rites beginning at noon followed by military honors accorded by VFW Post 2496 and the US Army. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Robert Richards. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower, MI at 4 p.m. after funeral services.
