Robert Floyd Hanna Jr., 71, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2025, after a long courageous battle with kidney disease.
Robert was born on August 4, 1954, in Flint, Michigan to Robert and Norma (LaVasser) Hanna, Sr. He married Mary Obuchowski on May 9, 1981. Robert served as a Combat Engineer for 6 years in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 1972 to 1978. He returned to the States from Germany and worked construction. He continued his service to others by opening his home and heart to many foster children over the years. He loved his family and the great outdoors, particularly hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed trips to the casino, and playing cards or dominoes with his mom and sister. He loved his family deeply and adored his beloved grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife Mary of 44 years; six children, Adam Hanna, Heather (Joshua) Scott, Nicole (Jason) Smolinski, Bobbi (Antonio) Terry, Amanda Hanna, Jacob Hanna; 13 grandchildren, Madison and Eric Hanna, Jason, Breanne, and Alexandra Smolinski, Josslyn and Holden Scott, Anthony Sivil, Antonio, Gabriel and Jaxson Terry, Meekah and Skyler McCormick; his mother, Norma Hanna; sister, Kathy (Michael) Medeiros, 2 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hanna Sr.; sisters, Peggy Jo Hanna and Cheryl Lynn Hanna.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. with military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Matthew Roney officiating.
