Helene Kay Meyer

Helene Winifred Kay was born on January 4, 1935, to the late Basil and Lillian (Davenport) Kay, in Rochester, New York. The family lived on a small farm located on Lawrence Road, Hilton, NY where Helene completed her schooling in 1953. After graduation she went to work at Kodak. She met her husband David J. Meyer while he was working as a Kindergarten and 1st grade schoolteacher at St. Paul Lutheran School in Hilton. They were married on August 9, 1958. In 1964, they moved to Berrien Springs, MI and in 1974 moved to Alpena, MI.

Helene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alpena. Spanning over 62 years, Helene devoted her musical talents to God’s glory. She served as an accompanist, organist, choir director and member of the bell choir.

She is survived by her husband, David, of 67 years; children Paul (Jennifer) Meyer, Beth (Tom) Newland, Daniel (Tammy) Meyer, John (Miriam) Meyer; five grandchildren: Chris Newland, Sarah Newland, Raddin Meyer, Sawyer Meyer, Robin Staggs; and one great-grandchild, Kyler Newland; brother David (Carolyn) Kay; sister-in-law, Betty Kay; many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her stepfather, Chester Seeger and brother, Richard Kay.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 2-6 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Graveside committal service will be at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday.
