Diane Bromund
Diane Beverly Bromund, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on August 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 27, 1955, at the Naval base in Millington, Tennessee, to Reginald Mallon Carlson and Sybil Francis Carlson (née Avret). Her father proudly served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, and her mother was a devoted homemaker.
Diane grew up in San Diego, California, where she met the love of her life, Jim Bromund, while he was stationed there in the Navy. They later moved to Alpena, to raise their family and be closer to loved ones.
Diane is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Jim Bromund of Alpena. She was the proud mother of three children: Heather Bromund (and partner Rusty) of San Diego, California; Kelly Lewis (and husband Shawn) of Swartz Creek, Michigan; and Derek Bromund of Clearwater, Florida. Her love extended deeply to her cherished granddaughters, Brenna, Lily, and Hayley, and her dear nephew, Sam Bromund.
She is also survived by her sister Lesley and brother Donald, and their families, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and connections.
Diane was a social butterfly who cared deeply for everyone she met. She cherished making connections in her community and was very active in it. Everyone who met her instantly liked her and her energetic, bubbly personality. She cherished helping shape youth in Alpena, whether it was through her job as a transition specialist for the school district or helping keep score and cheer for the Alpena High School Softball Team. Whenever she traveled back to her hometown of San Diego, she enjoyed meeting with her San Diego Gas and Electric family, who always held a special place in her heart. In retirement, Diane and Jim traveled extensively, exploring national parks and visiting countries around the world. These adventures brought her immense joy in her later years. She often traveled with or to see her family, combining her love of exploration with her deep devotion to those closest to her.
A celebration of life will be held in Alpena on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at JJ’s Banquet Hall to honor Diane. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to a charity close to her heart, ACC endowment in Diane’s name. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family. Online condolences can be made at mcwilliamsfh.com.
