Betty Bugg
Betty Ann Bugg, 91, of Curran, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2025.
Born on December 8, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, Betty’s life was a testament to the power of education, the beauty of nature, and the depth of familial bonds. Betty’s journey as an educator began with her earning a teaching degree, which paved the way for her to inspire young minds in several one-room schoolhouses. It was in Curran, where her teaching career flourished, that she met her future husband, Lisle Bugg, a kind-hearted school bus driver. Their paths crossed in the halls of learning, and their lives became intertwined on June 23, 1956, when they married and embarked on a life filled with love and dedication to family. Together, Betty and Lisle nurtured a family that grew to include their children Cindy Zenker, Rick Bugg, Barb Green, and Dean (Doreen) Bugg. Betty’s legacy further blossomed with 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply. Her sister, Carol Kraft, who preceded her in death, and her close friend Patty Palmer, are among the many who will remember Betty’s warmth and generosity.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Lisle on November 3, 2018. She was also preceded by her parents, Robert and Margaret (Settsam) Miller.
Betty’s love for her family was paralleled only by her passion for gardening and birdwatching. Her hands, so often tenderly tending to plants or diligently managing the laundry, were a testament to her love for life’s simple pleasures and her commitment to care for all things entrusted to her. She was often described as the best mother ever, a title she earned every day through her unwavering support and endless affection.
Betty has been taken for cremation with no services planned at this time. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
