Thomas Snyder
Thomas Nicholas Snyder, of Spratt, MI, age 81, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on a later date.
Tom was born in Breda, Iowa, on October 26, 1943, son of the late Elmer and Angeline (Hauser) Snyder. On February 5, 1966, Tom married the love of his life, Vicki Lee VanSipe, in Alpena, MI, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising a family and creating countless memories. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966, where he displayed the same commitment and discipline that would characterize his entire life. After his service, he turned his attention to his work as an independent concrete contractor, founding S.A.V. Cement. For 30 years, Tom worked tirelessly, earning a reputation for his skill, integrity, and dedication to his craft, retiring in 2008. Tom was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Burton, MI, and St. Rose Catholic Church in Herron, MI, where he found comfort in his faith. He was a proud member of Thunder Bay Resort in Hillman, MI where he once got a hole-in-one. His love for nature was evident in his free time. He cherished spending time on his 60-acre property “Up North,” where he enjoyed walking, hunting, golfing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. His connection to the land, and his love for the outdoors, defined much of who he was. He lived a simple life but found joy in the quiet moments, whether it was a walk in the woods or a peaceful day spent watching sports, particularly cheering for his beloved Detroit Lions. Though Tom was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and the quiet strength of a man who lived life on his own terms. “GO LIONS!” — a phrase that will forever echo in our hearts, just as his memory will.
Tom is survived by his wife, Vicki Snyder; 4 daughters, Lena (John) Hall, Nannette (Vern Compeau) Snyder, Amy (Steve) Taljonick and Becky (Tim) Rapacz; 7 grandchildren, Bryan (Nicole) Hall, Daniel (Brittany) Hall, Makayla Roster, Alayna Roster, Madeline Rapacz, Evelyn Rapacz and Isabel Rapacz; 5 great-grandchildren, Adisynne, Jackson, Amelia, Aria and Owen; 3 honorary great-grandchildren, Brantlee, Scarlett and Axel; 5 siblings, Eunice Caldwell, George Snyder, Jean (Leo) Luedtke, Vernon (Rosemary) Snyder and Deanna (Skeet) Flynn; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Angeline Snyder; 5 siblings, Shirley (Jerry) Juergens, William (Kathleen) Snyder, Audrey (Milo) Hermsen, Mary Werning and Charles (Gloria) Snyder.
