Kari Kollien, of Alpena, passed away on July 10, 2025, at the young age of 45 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Kari was born to Francis and Theresa White on June 4, 1980 in Alpena, MI. She grew up in the Ossineke area, where her early years were filled with laughter and friendships. Kari was a proud 1999 graduate of Alpena High School. After graduation and some college, she began a career as a dental assistant allowing her to provide care to others, a testament of her desire to bring comfort to others.
In 2009, Kari embraced the most cherished role of her life, becoming a mother to her beloved daughter, Marissa Kollien. Motherhood was Kari’s greatest joy, and she dedicated herself to creating an abundance of beautiful memories to last Marissa a lifetime. Together, they shared adventures and everyday moments that were an example of Kari’s love and joyful spirit.
Kari’s fun spirit of life was evident in her many interests. She was an avid golfer, often participating in benefit fundraiser tournaments, where her competitive spirit was always present but yet playful. Her love of the outdoors extended to kayaking, tennis, and gardening in her flower gardens. Kari also had fun bowling which brought her many laughs and memories with friends.
Kari’s personality was magnetic; she was a bubbly presence who naturally drew people to her. She possessed an uncanny ability to find the good in others, always focusing on the positive and encouraging those around her to do the same. Her loving nature made her a cherished mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her adoring daughter, Marissa Kollien; her father, Francis White; her brothers, Andy (Allison) White and Shawn White; her niece, Maddison; and her nephew, Zayden. Kari was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa White, whose memory Kari held close to her heart.
Her legacy is one of love and the courage to face life’s challenges with a smile. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Kari Kollien’s story is not one of sorrow but a celebration of a life well-lived and a reminder to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones.
