Fredrick Manning

Fred was born in Green Township on September 28, 1932, to the late Emery and Evelyn (Smith) Manning. Fred served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On April 28, 1956, he married Marjorie Wise. Fred worked and retired from Verizon in 1991. He was active in Alpena 4-H, started and coached the APS equestrian team, enjoyed training horses, woodworking and baseball.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; 5 children, Steven (Carol) Manning, Julie (Tony) Chesney, Bryan (Kathy) Manning, Neil (Shawn) Manning, Traci Manning; 8 grandchildren, Nichole Newsom, Olivia Manning, Emilee Manning, Tyler Chesney, Tremayne Manning, Desmond Wardlaw, Jesse Manning, Alisha Manning; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Howe; sister-in-law, Elaine Manning; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Manning was preceded in death by granddaughter, Abby Chesney; 3 siblings, Fern Christensen, Roger Manning and Arlie Manning.

Visitation will take place at Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 12 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Rubean officiating followed by military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
