Donald Harvey Parrish passed away on June 27, 2025 in West Rotonda, Florida, at the age of 93. He was born on March 16, 1932 to Jesse and Clara Parrish. He grew up alongside his siblings, Jesse Jr. and Thelma.

After graduation from high school, Don pursued his passion for music at Western Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Music. He later earned a master’s degree in Music Education. Following his graduation, he married Ingerid Van Stratton in Kalamazoo, Michigan. During their 25 years of marriage, they welcomed five children.

Donald served two years in the Army Band in Alaska and went on to share his love of music through teaching band and choir in public schools. His musical talents extended beyond the classroom where he performed with numerous instrumental groups over the years, including playing trombone with Claude Gordon’s Big Band and entertain at various venues as a piano bar musician.

In 1981, Donald married Cleona Hyzer of Wilber Michigan. Her son became a cherished member of the family. After retiring, Donald and Cleona embraced the RV lifestyle and found joy performing with the Frustrated Maestros alongside many dear friends.

Don was preceded in death by Cleona and his eldest daughter. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, his stepson, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Donald’s lifelong dedication to music and education left a lasting impression on those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who shared in his life.
