Jack Klein

Jack Klein, 98, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Jack was born in the Klein Settlement, Rust Township, on January 9, 1927, to the late Walter and Minnie (McKellar) Klein, the last of seven children. He attended the Klein School, where he sat in the same desk his dad had carved his initials.

On August 7, 1948, he married Jeanne A. Cole. Prior to her death in 2022, they were six weeks shy of celebrating 74 years of wedded bliss.

Jack worked for Abitibi for many years, retiring as an electrician in 1987. He attended the former Ripley Baptist Church (Alpena) for many years, being involved in the Children’s Ministry, including their bus ministry, for over 25 years; singing in the choir, providing guitar music, and piano/guitar duets with the late Helen Timm for more than 50 years. In 2000 Huron Shores Fellowship was started, with Jack and Jeanne being charter members. Jack sang in the choir for many years, being a strong bass singer. He loved playing his guitars: acoustic, electric, and pedal steel.

Jack loved spending time with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He really enjoyed his tractors and tools.

Jack’s greatest joy was serving the Lord and helping others come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He was a witness, no matter where he was, and many returned later in life to tell him their Salvation stories. When he walked into Jesus’ arms, it was said, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Surviving are his three children, Susie Schwartz, Connie Hockersmith, Rob (Lynn) Klein; four grandchildren, Stephen (Barbara) Hockersmith, Sean (Sandy) Klein, Jake Klein, Caleigh Klein; six great-grandchildren, Lilly Hockersmith, Peyton Hockersmith, Izzy Kuter, Dominic Colello, Autumn Literski, Nikolai Schwartz, Mila Klein, Emma Klein, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Klein was preceded in death by three grandsons, Michael Hockersmith, Joshua Hockersmith, and Christopher Schwartz; and six siblings, Jean Elowsky, Willard Klein, Margaret Soeltz, June Green, Donald Klein, and Eva Klein.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Huron Shores Fellowship, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 12 p.m., with Pastor Joe Collins and Rev. Warren Hoffman co-officiating. Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
