Irma Genschaw

December 23, 1941 - April 26, 2025

Irma Leona Genschaw, a cherished soul known for her loving nature and kind heart, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Mecosta, MI, at the age of 83. Born on December 23, 1941, in Herron, MI, Irma was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Edna (Hasse) Kemnitz. Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. Irma’s journey began in the small town of Herron, where she grew up surrounded by her siblings, Norma (Harold) Westervelt, Gladys (John) Anderson, Howard (Earleen) Kemnitz, Nelda (Michael) Hoffer, and the late Willis, Glen, Joyce, Edna, Jean, Marian, and infant sister Elaine.

She carried the warmth of her family’s love throughout her life, creating a legacy of her own with her devoted husband, Ronald Genschaw, who preceded her in death on June 14, 2022. Together, Irma and Ronald were blessed with three wonderful children: Connie (Tom) Maas, Randall (Patti) Genschaw, and Stuart (Lori) Genschaw. Irma’s role as a mother was one of her greatest joys, and she instilled in her children the values of compassion, resilience, and the importance of family. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Caitlin (Karl) Schrantz, Erin Prior, Adam (Mel) Briar, Joey, Connor, Drew, and Grant Genschaw, and she was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother to Gustav Schrantz. Irma’s professional life was marked by her dedication and work ethic. She was a familiar and friendly face at Alpena Sharp Freeze, Alpena Savings Bank, and Perch’s, where she worked until her retirement. Her colleagues knew her as someone who brought not just her skills but also her warmth and generosity to the workplace. Beyond her family and career, Irma was a woman of many interests. She found solace in the pages of a good book and joy in the challenge of a puzzle. A devout member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Alpena, Irma’s faith was a cornerstone of her life.

Irma’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, service, and faith. Those who knew her will remember her for her loving nature, which was the essence of who she was. She had a gift for making others feel seen and valued. Her wit and sense of humor was enjoyed by family, friends and caregivers. Irma’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Shipman officiating. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
