YVONNE MARIE GEROW

Yvonne Marie Gerow, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, in Alpena, Michigan, at the age of 89. Born on Jan. 6, 1936, in Flint, Michigan, Yvonne was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Ida (Sharboneau) Madore.

Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and unwavering faith. Yvonne’s journey through life was shared with her beloved husband, James Gerow, whom she married on April 19, 1958.

Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and an ever-growing family. Yvonne was a fantastic stay-at-home mother and wife, dedicating her life to nurturing her children and creating a warm, loving home.

Her husband, James, preceded her in death on Aug.19, 2021, leaving a legacy of love for their family to cherish. She was the loving mother of Douglas (Margaret), Patrick (Debra), Anthony, Karen (David), Nancy (Patrick) Ranger, and Daniel (Marie) Gerow. Yvonne’s role as a grandmother and great-grandmother was one she embraced with all her heart, leaving behind 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.

Her family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them the values of compassion, kindness, and faith. Yvonne was the dear sister of Margaret Fromwiller and Norma Hubbard.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene, Paul, and Joe Madore, and her sisters, Joan Lang and Venetta Babich.

Her family circle was a source of immense happiness and support throughout her life. Her favorite pet, Walter, was a source of comfort, especially in her later years. Walter’s presence brought her immeasurable joy and companionship.

Yvonne’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. She was an exceptional cook and baker, known for her delicious meals and treats that brought the family together. Her talent for decorating was evident in each home she lovingly adorned before selling and moving on to the next adventure.

Nature was a refuge for Yvonne, and she found peace in its beauty, often reflecting this tranquility in her own surroundings.

Playing cards, and winning, was a favorite pastime, as was reading, allowing her to explore worlds beyond her own, while her witty sense of humor was a source of endless delight for all who knew her. Traveling, especially camping with family, was one of her favorite ways to explore. These journeys created memories that her family will treasure forever.

A devout Catholic, Yvonne’s strong faith was the cornerstone of her life. She lived her beliefs through her actions, her kindness, and her unwavering support for those she loved. Her faith-filled spirit was an inspiration to all, guiding her through life’s challenges with grace and resilience.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Fr. Emmanuel Finbarr officiating. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan. McWilliams Funeral Home has handled arrangements.
