William “Bill” Franklin Smith, 87, of Alpena, passed away from myelodysplastic cancer that turned into leukemia on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.
Bill was born on March 31, 1938, to the late Russell “Chum” and Loretta (Eagle) Smith in Hillman. He was a member of the Harvest Community Church, enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, spending time at the “summer cottage/winter hunting camp” and was loved by all that knew him.
Surviving are his wife Ann, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1978, 47 years ago. Together they have two children, Andrew (LeAnne) Smith, Tina (Daniel) Hunt; adopted grandson, Jeremiah Smith; in addition are Bill’s other children, William Dale (Marsha) Smith, Tamyra Smith, Daniel Todd Smith, Traci (Umar) Delaney; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; siblings, Gary (Gail) Smith, Paticia Purdey; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clinton “Bucky” Smith, Jack Smith, Kenneth Smith, daughter-in-law, Cindy Smith and two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Craig McDonald officiating.
