SUE ANN ELLER

Dec. 8, 1947 – April 8, 2025

It is with extreme sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Sue Eller announce her peacefully passing on April 8, 2025, at home.

Born Sue Ann Doyle in Mt. Pleasant, MI on Dec. 8, 1947, to parents Robert and Dorothy Doyle and married Robert (Bob) Eller on Aug. 15, 1970. Sue is survived by her husband Bob, sister Sally Hunt of Petoskey, brother Jim Doyle of Alpena, and brother-in-law Jim Eller of Tennessee, nephews Brian Engle of Petoskey, Jason Eller of Grand Rapids, Steve Eller of Wisconsin, and Scott Eller of Missouri. Sue is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Ken Hunt.

After graduating from Alpena High School in the class of 1966, Sue went on to graduate from Alpena Community College and then got her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University. After graduating, Sue and then new husband Bob moved to Superior, Wisconsin to begin a long and very successful teaching career. In 1971, she returned to Alpena and was employed as an elementary school teacher with Alpena Public Schools for 30-plus years until her retirement.

Sue was truly a one in a million people that was always smiling and enjoyed by those who knew her. Sue and husband Bob of 55 years enjoyed many adventures over the years with mystery trips with her sister Sally, several great vacations and spending a couple months in The Villages, Florida each winter. Sue loved the out-of-doors from the hunting camp, BS Acres, snowmobiling for too many years to remember, the SXS rides with a special group of friends, and most recently riding in their new Corvette to several dinners with the local Corvette Club. Sue enjoyed her time most, line dancing with great friends weekly and at The Villages.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at Holy Cross Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Richard Hotchkin officiating, followed by an open house/celebration of life at JJ’s Restaurant on North Second Ave. from 2 to 5 p.m. Friends and family are invited to stop by, have a bite to eat and remember how great a person Sue was. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue’s name to Friends Together, 105 Prentiss St. Alpena, MI 49707
