Margaret Louise Manning, 97, of Alpena passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at Medilodge – Greenview.
Margaret Louise Gohl was born in Alpena on Nov. 18, 1927, to the late Orville and Vivian (Naylor) Gohl. Margaret worked and retired from GTE as a supervisor and later went back to work as a private duty home health aide, caring for numerous people throughout her lifetime. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Club, Gals Always Young Club, and the Alpena Garden Club. She will be remembered for her love of square dancing, keeping an elegant and beautiful home, and being an excellent cook with her secret recipes. She had the utmost attention to detail and was in her element while hosting parties and entertaining guests. Her family will cherish many fond memories spending time at the cottage on Grand Lake, where she was famous for making her Great Puffy Pancakes, served with freshly picked berries and warm syrup. Margaret was particular in every way and paid attention to everyone’s unique preferences. She always gave the perfect gifts and made everyone feel special. Margaret married Hugh Manning in May of 1971. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2009.
Surviving are her two children, Dennis (Audrey Black) Skaluba, Debra (Michael) Steber; sive grandchildren, Eric Skaluba, Jeanette (Tom Colin) Skaluba, Robin (Tim) Schaffer, Jason (Debbie) Snyder, Stephanie (Shawn) Shafto; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Skaluba, Elizabeth Skaluba, Samantha (Thomas Loomis) Fairbairn, Noah Kindt, Gabe Kindt, Marli Wils, Julian Shafto; two great-great-grandchildren, August Kindt, Leigh Fairbairn; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gohl; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Manning was preceded in death by her son, Randy Skaluba; her brother, Winston Gohl; her sister, Marie Hall; and her first husband, Edward Skaluba.
Visitation will take place on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon with the Rev. Robert Nystrom officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
