Donna lived all but the past four years of her life in Alpena, MI, sharing good times with Dale until his passing and countless friends and family. They enjoyed life with many friends and relatives at various activities, at the surrounding lakes, campgrounds, and periodic vacation trips. She was very active in Girl Scouts for nearly 70 years and over that time earned the two highest awards presented to adults in Girl Scouting, the Thanks Badge & Thanks Badge II. She was recently honored with a 65-year pin as one of the longest active adult members of the Girl Scout Organization in Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore Council.
Donna was the driving force to get funding started for the renovations recently completed at Camp Woodlands Girl Scout Camp in Alpena County. Prior to moving to Wisconsin. She was also very active in the Ladies Sodality at St Annes Church (All Saints Catholic Church) and worked on various committees over the years. When Dale was a young City Firefighter, she started City of Alpena Firefighters Auxiliary who would bring sandwiches, coffee, water and Gatorade to the firefighters at active fire scenes day or night.
She was also employed by the Girls Club of Alpena for several years. Her and Dale owned and operated Thunder Bay Ceramics of Alpena for many years. Arts and crafts were a staple for her as she always had a project for the grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
Nieces and Nephews. Many of them have continued to pay it forward sharing their passion as well. She loved to sing; share songs and stories with everyone she met.
In 2021, after living with Cindy and her family for many years, Donna moved to the Fields of Washington County in West Bend, WI. For one, it was time for assisted living care and an opportunity to be closer to the rest of her grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren. She loved sharing songs and games with them and watching the sports and school activities that they participated in. Donna made many new friends at the Fields and was very instrumental in starting new activities there. She established an art room, taught painting and many other craft activities. She started a weekly sing-along, as well as various game nights that the residents still participate in today. She was also asked to be a member in the last year for the Washington County ADRC Board.
She always lived by the phrase she often shared with others “Are we enjoying the moment?”
After Cremation, there was a short Prayer service at the Fields of Washington County for her new Friends and Family which was held April 15. Her Funeral Mass in Alpena, MI will be Thursday, May 22, 2025, visitation in the gathering area from 10 a.m. until time of mass at noon. A luncheon and celebration of life will immediately follow the mass at All Saints Parish in Alpena, MI with Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery to follow the luncheon at approximately 3 p.m.
