Donald Eugene Urban Sr.

Donald “Gene” Urban, Sr., 87, of Massillion, OH, formerly of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, with his wife Barbara by his side. Gene was born in Massillon, Ohio, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Education. He taught many years at Franklin Elementary. He married Barbara Bristor, Feb. 24, 2962. They moved to Alpena, where he taught at Hinks and Thunder Bay Junior High. He also prepared income taxes in his home. He was actively involved at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Alpena. They later moved back to Massillon, where he was also active at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Barb of 63 years; children Skeeter (Val) Urban, Denise (Rod) Bochard, and Kelly (fiance Owen Johnson) LaPratt; grandchildren, Brandon (Halie) Urban, Matt Urban, Kyle (Katie) Urban, Geoffrey (Chevy) Hoeksema, Lauren (Joe) Finazzo, and Carly (Brandon Love) Hoeksema; six great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
Visitation will be Monday, June 2, 2025, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Massillon, Ohio. Memorials can be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alpena, or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church: 4275 Lincoln Way W., Massillon, OH, 44647.
