GARY JAMES HILLMAN

Gary James Hillman, 82, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Munson Medical Center – Traverse City with his family by his side.

Gary was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Alpena to the late John and Irene (Szatkowski) Hillman. On Aug. 23, 1969, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Jakubiak. Gary retired from a career as a mechanical engineer in 1999. He cherished spending time with family, whether it be a six-hour card game of Golf during holiday get-togethers or any other family event. His whimsical sense of humor was enjoyed by friends and family alike. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, golfing, the casino, and gardening. He could often be seen on his lawnmower or tractor every other day.

Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou; two children, Amy (Tony) Krug, Traverse City, Edwin (Kelly) Hillman, Alpena; two sisters, Penny Barton, Nancy McFalda; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hillman was preceded in death by his grandchild, George Krug; three brothers, Thomas Hillman, Robert Hillman, Donald Hillman; two sisters, Janet Sylvester and Kaye Bielat.

Visitation will take place Saturday at Bannan Funeral Home from noon until the funeral service at 4 p.m. with Deacon Michael Roy officiating.
