Norma “Kay” Young, a cherished soul known for her vibrant spirit and generous heart, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in her hometown of Alpena, where she was also born on Nov. 8, 1937. Kay, as she preferred to be called, was the beloved daughter of the late Roy and Rose (Fisher) Harris. Her life was a testament to the love and laughter she shared with all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Alpena High School in 1956, Kay’s passion for knowledge and community shone brightly throughout her life. She was a beacon of support and friendship, always ready to lend a hand or an ear to those in need. Her brother, Phillip Harris, and his wife Bonnie, along with her sister Eleanor Harris, fondly remember Kay’s unwavering kindness and infectious smile. She was preceded in death by her brother Leland and sister Arlene Michaud, with whom she now rests in peace.
Kay’s zest for life was evident in her many interests. She was an avid traveler, exploring new places and embracing different cultures with open arms. Her garden was a source of pride and joy, reflecting the care and attention she devoted to nurturing growth and beauty. An excellent hostess, Kay’s home was the heart of many gatherings, filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her delightful cooking.
Kay’s legacy is one of love, friendship, and the simple joys of life. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. As the seasons change and flowers bloom, we will remember Kay, a woman who cultivated beauty in the world and in the hearts of her loved ones.
Per her wishes Kay has been taken for cremation with no services planned at this time. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
