WALTER CLYDE PLOHOCKY

Walter Clyde Plohocky was born in Bessmer, Michigan to Antoinette and John Plohocky on Nov. 2, 1936 and was ushered home on Jan. 8, 2025 following complications from pancreatic cancer with loved ones by his side.
Walter was raised and attended school in Ironwood, Michigan and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1955. Upon graduation, Walter joined the United States Coast Guard, where he began the journey of a lifetime and it was there that he met the love of his life, Patrica Anne Terry. They were married in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Oct. 18, 1960 and shortly thereafter, welcomed their daughter Terry and then son Jerry. Walter served in a variety of key positions while serving in the United States Coast Guard throughout numerous assignments along the Great Lakes, Lake Champlain in Vermont, and his most cherished tour of duty, as officer in charge of the Alpena Light and Thunder Bay Island Light Stations. After honorably serving his country for 26 years, Walter retired from the United States Coast Guard in 1981 where he and his family returned to Alpena and he embarked on an enjoyable new career and retired from the Alpena Power Co. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Patricia, daughter Terry (Paul) Franquez, son Jerry (Kim) Plohocky, brother Dennis, granddaughter Elizabeth (Adam) Davis and great-granddaughters Adrianna and Gabriella. Walter was preceded in death by mother Antoinette, father John, brothers Edgar, Jerome, and Carroll and sisters Charlene and Grace and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Per Walter’s wishes a private celebration of life memorial service was held for immediate family members. Memorials for consideration to be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice of Michigan.
