RUTH MARIE MARTELL

June 28, 1931 – Oct. 4, 2024

Ruth was one of 10 children born in Detroit to Cornelius and Anna O’Connor. She attended Holy Redeemer School and later worked at Detroit Edison. Ruth met James Richard Martell in Detroit on a blind date. They married June 9, 1952. Their 61-year marriage began as an adventure across the country serving our nation in both the Navy and Air Force. Together they raised six independent and amazing children. Military retirement came in 1971; they then spent many years in Michigan, Arizona, and Florida.

Her kindness and devotion to her husband and family will not be forgotten. All who knew her appreciated her humor and wit. Ruth was strong, smart, tenacious, appreciative, and a little bit of hurricane. She was thoughtful and generous to all who knew her.

She precedes a large family of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends and relatives who will all miss her loving and caring spirit.
