Richard Leo Zawacki, passed away peacefully on Sept. 26, 2024, in Midland, Michigan, at the age of 78. Born on Dec. 7, 1945, in Alpena, to the late Leo and Dorothy Zawacki. Richard’s journey began in the small town of Alpena, where he grew up surrounded by the love of his close-knit family. He worked many years as a machinist at Thunder Bay Manufacturing. He was an avid supporter of the Detroit Lions and Tigers, embodying the true spirit of a Michigan sports fan. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back without a second thought. Richard was always there to give a anyone ride wherever they wanted to go. He did things his way true till the end. Richard’s loved his time spent at Clem’s bait shop, where he shared laughter and stories with all his buddies. He was known for his love of playing the Michigan Lottery. Shooting pool for Sports page was more than a pastime; it was a way for Richard to connect with friends and engage in friendly competition. Bingo nights with his sister Mary were filled with fun, a reflection of the close bond they shared. Richard’s admiration of animals showcased his tender heart, and despite not being a fan of computers, he navigated life with a sense of purpose and connection that technology could never replace. Richard’s memory will be lovingly carried on by his daughter, Jennifer Sheldon; his brother, John (Judy) Zawacki; his sisters, Mary (Brian) Zawacki and Marcia (Darrel) Milligan; and his treasured granddaughter, Kyra Lucas. He was also preceded by his sisters, Sue Dohring and Sandy Ravitz. Richard now joins his beloved wife, Ann Zawacki, in eternal rest.
McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family. Per Richard’s wishes, he has been taken for cremation with no services planned at this time.
