GERALD KRUEGER
Dec. 17, 1924 – Oct. 2, 2024
Gerald Alfred Krueger, 99, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024.
Gerald “Feeney” was born, on Dec. 17, 1924, to Alfred and Clara (Mielke) Krueger in Alpena. He is survived by his three children, Sandy (Steve) Carpenter of North Carolina, Jim of Hillman, and Mark of Alpena, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Gerald was preceded by his parents, sister, Lois (Fred) Frantz, and his beloved wife, Ruth, of over 77 years.
After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a radio man aboard ships that took part in the Asia-Pacific campaign, the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign, and the Philippine Liberation. Upon leaving the active duty, Gerald returned home to Alpena spending several years with both the U.S. Naval Reserve and the National Guard.
Gerald worked over 40 years for the Besser company, retiring in 1986. While at Besser, he was instrumental in the formation of the Besser Credit Union. He was an active member of the Besser Rifle League, the bowling league, and the golf league. He served on the Alpena General Hospital board of directors and was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
A beloved family man, he loved spending time with friends and family at the Long Lake cottage, the Kraut Krew Klub Hunting Camp, and later at the cabin on Gilchrist, known as “the creek.” He loved to both hunt and fish, and truly enjoyed the outdoors.
The family will receive friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon with Pastor Joshua Schultz officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery. Please consider making a memorial donation to Immanuel Lutheran church. Arrangements are in the care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
