ALBERT RICHARD VanDUSEN

Albert Richard VanDusen

June 15, 1936 – Oct. 20, 2024

Albert Richard VanDusen, known affectionately as Dick by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Oct. 20, 2024, in Lachine, at the age of 88. Born on June 15, 1936, in Alpena, he was the cherished son of the late Albert J. and Myrtle (Allen) VanDusen. Dick’s life was one of dedication, love, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dick’s journey through life was shared with his beloved wife, Emily (Bahrke) VanDusen, whom he married on July 30, 1982. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter. He was a devoted father to his children, Cheryl (Greg) MacDonald, William VanDusen, and James VanDusen, whom he shared with his former wife, Shirley Worthington. His role as a grandfather to Nathan (Corrine) MacDonald, Joshua MacDonald, Heather VanDusen, Alyssa VanDusen, and Mikayla VanDusen, as well as a great-grandfather to Rory, Rylee, Remi MacDonald, Xavier VanDusen, and Easton VanDusen was one he embraced with joy and pride.

Dick’s brothers, the late Alvin and Allen, held a special place in his heart. Elaine Sweger, who was like a sister to him, along with his sister-in-law Gloria Van Dusen, they both will cherish the memories they made with Dick. His extended family of nieces and nephews will remember him as a pillar of strength and kindness in the family.

Before retiring, Dick spent many years as a long-haul truck driver, a career that suited his love for travel and adventure. He found comfort in the driver’s seat of his truck while listening to old country gospel music. His dedication to his country was evident in his service with the National Guards. Dick was a man of many talents and interests. He was particularly known for his handy and thoughtful nature, often providing rides for the Amish community, which he enjoyed immensely. His skills in machine working were not only a professional asset but also a personal passion. If Dick was not working or helping others, he could be found out on the golf range golfing with his son Jim.

One of Dick’s most notable achievements was building his home alongside his wife, Emily. This endeavor showcased his craftsmanship and his ability to create a warm and welcoming space for his family and friends. The home they built together was not just a structure but a testament to their partnership and hard work.

Dick is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, from 2-8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
