Thomas Stanley Cieciorka, 81, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Sept. 13.
Tom will be remembered for his great storytelling, quick wit and fierce honesty. Tom spent his early years in Iron River and attended Northern Michigan University where he earned a bachelor's degree in education followed by a master's degree in school counseling. Tom married the love of his life Paulette and they made their home in Alpena. He dedicated nearly 25 years to a career in education as a science teacher, though primarily as a guidance counselor at Thunder Bay Junior High and Alpena High School.
He was an avid reader, loquacious writer and an active supporter of the Alpena Public Library. Tom was a conversationalist; he enjoyed visiting with his family, friends, and neighbors. Tom took a special interest in his retirement years, building wooden boats through the Marine Sanctuary. Tom loved listening to blues music, was a maritime historian, Great Lakes shipping and classic car enthusiast as well as a lifetime Green Bay Packers fan.
Thomas is survived by his loving family; his children, son, Thomas J. Cieciorka (Amy), daughters, Sarah Pasia (Neil), and Angela Jefferson (Ken), and his eight grandchildren, Tyah, Aiden, Terrell, Dylan, Tiana, Quenton, Tayler, and Caison; and his sister-in-law Mary Lou Krieg (Dean). Tom is also survived by his lifelong friend Ken Duma (Sue). Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Paulette Cieciorka, and his parents Stanley and Helen Cieciorka.
His family will host a private celebration of life in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alpena Public Library or the Thunder Bay Island Lighthouse Preservation Society.
