April 19, 1927 – Sept. 14, 2024
Ruth Irene Krueger, 97, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024.
Ruth was born on April 19, 1927, to Arthur and LaVerna (Fuerst) Adrian in Flint. She is survived by her husband of over 77 years, Gerald, her three children, Sandy (Steve) Carpenter of North Carolina, Jim of Hillman, and Mark of Alpena, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, her sister, Gloria (Gary) Smith, her brother, Arthur Adrian, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William Adrian, and an infant sister, Carol Adrian.
Ruth's early years were heavily influenced by her father's career in the U.S. Coast Guard, traveling to many of the Coast Guard's Life Saving Stations. They included New London, Conn., Jackson Park, Ill., St. Joseph and Pointe Aux Barques. She loved the water and took pride in teaching her three children to swim at the family cottage on Long Lake. Her family will cherish memories of her laughter, quick wit, competitive spirit in card games, and her endless love and support. Ruth had room in her heart for everyone. She was a community volunteer, an accomplished orchid grower, a bowler, a talented stain glass artist, avid Detroit Tigers fan, and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Arrangements will be announced in a future edition of The News upon completion. McWilliams Funeral Home is assisting the family.
