Jon Paul Gagnon, 69, of Grawn, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 27, 1955, in Alpena, the son of Dallas Joseph and Maxine Marie (LaFave) Gagnon.
Jon attended Alpena High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Shortly after he was discharged from the Marines, he moved to Traverse City, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Beth Sorrells. They were married on July 29, 1989, in Traverse City.
He was a carpenter who worked in construction and commercial maintenance. Jon could regularly be found in his shop restoring antiques or working on other projects. One of his favorite hobbies was purchasing storage units at auction and selling his finds at garage sales.
Jon was an active member of the Interlochen Bible Church. He enjoyed volunteering with the Kids Wednesday night program.
He enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers at the family camp; hunting for and collecting rocks, and mushrooms. Jon especially loved spending time with his family.
Jon is survived by his wife, Nancy Gagnon; daughters, Angel Schliska and Jenalea Gagnon; sons, Jesse (Stephanie) Gagnon and Adam Gagnon; grandchildren, Henry and Sophia; mother, Maxine Gagnon; siblings, Steven (Cindy) Gagnon, Mary Kay Fitzgerald, Nancy Belanger, Kevin Gagnon, Yvonne (Chris) Moran and numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Kathy Gagnon and Raeann Gagnon, Lynda Shafto and Lori Sorrells.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dallas Gagnon; brothers, David, Michael, Lee and Philip Gagnon; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Lavona "Babe" Sorrells and brothers-in-law, Terry Sorrells and Michael Belanager.
Jon was loved by his family and friends, he will be missed, however his family knows he is at peace in Heaven.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Michigan for the excellent care and kindness they gave Jon and his family.
A celebration of Life was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at the Interlochen Bible Church. Burial was in the Ocqueoc Township Cemetery, Millersburg.
