Michael James Sanford, a cherished soul known for his kindness and friendly demeanor, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2024, in Alpena. Born on July 31, 1956, to Eilene (Lang) Sanford and James Sanford, Michael’s life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his country, and the great outdoors.

A proud graduate of Oscoda High School, Michael carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life. His strong sense of duty led him to serve with distinction in the United States Marine Corps.

After his military service, Michael lived in Las Vegas, Until his retirement to Spruce the place that held his heart. It was here that he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Michael was a man who could build and fix anything. He often spent hours tinkering on cars, a testament to his handy nature. His love for guns, horses, and nature was well-known, and he relished the opportunity to share this passion with those he loved.

Family was the cornerstone of Michael’s world. He is survived by his devoted father, James Sanford; his loving son, Jason Sanford, and daughter-in-law Jacquelynn, along with their children, Irelynn and Wyatt; his daughter, Rachel Rodilosso, and son-in-law Daniel, and their children, Magnus and Artemis. Michael’s brother, Randy Sanford, and sister-in-law Theresa; his sisters, Barbra Stoley, and brother-in-law Mathew, and Sue Elmer, and brother-in-law Larry, also survive him. Each family member will carry forward the legacy of love and kindness that Michael embodied. His beloved dog, Ace, will miss his gentle companionship. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Eilene (Lang) Sanford, who instilled in him the values of love and family that he held dear throughout his life.

Michael is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will accept visitors on Aug. 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. unit the time of service at 11 a.m. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 2496
