RICHARD NEUMANN

Richard Neumann a cherished and respected member of the Alpena community, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, in Farmington Hills, at the age of 75. Born on June 18, 1949, in Alpena, Richard’s life was one marked by dedication to his family, a passion for his work, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

Richard was the beloved son of the late Ervin and Eleanor (Kowalski) Neumann, and grew up alongside his siblings, Thomas (Ann) Neumann, Mary (Michael) Hamilton, and Andrew Neumann. He was a doting father to his children, Jamie (Kirk) King and Michael (Diana) Neumann, and a devoted grandfather who reveled in the joys of his grandchildren, Cassandra King, Connor King, Olenna Neumann, and Eleanor Neumann.

Richard’s career as an electrician was characterized by his meticulous craftsmanship and reliability, a testament to his work ethic that earned him the respect of his peers throughout his many years in the industry. Upon retirement, he did not slow down but instead continued to immerse himself in the activities he loved.

Known for his kind and thoughtful nature, Richard was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was happiest when surrounded by his family, whether it was during quiet evenings at home or on adventurous outings. An avid water-skier, Richard also enjoyed coin collecting, traveling, and playing a good game of pool or spitzer. His love for trivia, roller coasters, rock music concerts, and watching movies was well known among his friends and family, as was his passion for wildlife, news, and politics.

A proud community member of Alpena, Richard’s interest in politics was not just a hobby but a calling. He served as treasurer for the Democratic Party and twice ran for County Commissioner, showcasing his dedication to public service and his desire to make a difference in his community.

Richard’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the warmth he brought to every room. He will be remembered for the way he could engage in deep conversations about current events, his uncanny ability to recall obscure facts at trivia nights, and the thrill he sought in the next roller coaster ride or the next rock concert.

Richard is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m. with Pastor Joe Collins officiating. Memorial donations can be made to the Besser Museum or the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. Richard will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 11 a.m.
