MAXINE ELIZABETH HAMLIN

At the age of 84, Maxine Elizabeth (Owens) Hamlin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023.

Maxine was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Union City, Tenn. to Othor Lindo Owens and Georgia Lee (Wallace). On Nov. 3, 1958, in Ann Arbor, she married Dennis Lyle Hamlin. In 1974, they moved to Spruce, Michigan where Maxine lived for 45 years.

Maxine is survived by her brother George (Beverley) Owens of Harrisville. Three children, Dennis (Carol) Hamlin of Alpena, Kenneth (Mary) Hamlin of Onondaga, Monty (Erik) Hutchison of Ypsilanti, seven grandchildren, Karen, Derek, Kim, Ben, Ashlee, Sammy, Markas, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Lyle, daughter Pamela Lynn, son Chris Alexander.

Maxine loved her family deeply, “bushels and pecks and hugs around the neck”. She often attributed this deep love to her grandmother ‘Ma’ Wallace who she said taught her unconditional love.

Maxine enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout her life including tending to her flower gardens, crocheting, quilting, macrame, oil painting, needlepoint, and woodworking.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 11:00 am at Pleasant View Cemetery in Spruce with a gathering of friends and family immediately following the service at Caledonia Township Hall.
