Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mary Louise Stout was born Aug. 4, 1932 in Cadillac, Michigan. She died peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Mary was 91 years of age.
Mary's parents were Guy and Lucille Copley. She was raised on a centennial farm in Mesick, Michigan, along with her sister Priscilla. Following in her mother's footsteps, her educational journey took her to Central Michigan University for the art of teaching. There she met her future husband, Bill. Mary continued her education receiving her master's degree from University of Michigan. She remained a devoted Michigan Football and marching band fan.
Her first teaching job was in Clarkston, Michigan, where she taught elementary school children while waiting for Bill to return from deployment from the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.
Upon Bill's return from service, they were married and moved to Denver. They returned to Michigan and started their family in Dearborn then moving to Bloomfield Hills where they permanently resided. Mary and Bill shared 58 years of marriage.
Together, Mary and Bill gathered information for the book "Saginaw Bay Waterfowl Hunting and Decoy Carving." She took special care in editing the book prior to publication.
Alongside teaching Mary owned, bred, and was a handler of Fanfare Shetland sheepdogs, raising several champions.
Mary retired from the Pontiac school district after many years of teaching.
Mary enjoyed the simple pleasures in life from going for Sunday drives to roadside picnics with a special interest in "treasure collecting" at garage sales and shops. She found solace in nature going on hikes, collecting rocks along the way.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Archie Stout. Dear mother of Susan Hammer (Tony), Steven Stout (Colleen), and the late John Stout (Gail). Grandmother of Michael, Lauren, and Nicholas. Great-grandmother of Maddie. Sister of the late Priscilla Peterson.
