Jon Paul Newhouse, 63, of Alpena, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away June 12, 2024, in Alpena, Michigan. Born on Oct. 13, 1960, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to the late "R" Donn and Clara (Thompson) Newhouse, Jon's warm spirit and infectious laugh brought joy to all who knew him.
Jon's life was a testament to the value of hard work and dedication. He spent many years as a millwright, a trade that saw him become an integral part of the team at LaFarge, where he eventually retired. He also worked as a bus attendant for Pied Piper School for a couple of years, a position he found rewarding.
Family was the cornerstone of Jon's life. He leaves behind his loving wife, Karen (Bell), with whom he shared countless cherished moments. His daughters, Laura Beth (Daniel Lee II) Wilde and Mandy Rae Newhouse (Steve), will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. Jon was a guiding force in their lives, and his wisdom will continue to influence them. His grandson, Elliot James Wilde, was the apple of his eye, and Jon reveled in every opportunity to teach and play with him.
Jon is also survived by his brother, "R" Donn Jr., his sister, Cheryl (Dwayne) Davis, and his nephews, David and Steven Newhouse, all of whom will miss his guidance and unwavering support. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mark Alan Bell, with whom he shared many fond memories.
Beyond his family and work, Jon had a passion for the great outdoors. He was an avid camper, often venturing into nature to find solace and adventure. Fall weekends were reserved for cheering on the University of Michigan football team, a pastime that he enjoyed immensely. His black lab, Molly, was his constant companion on these excursions, and together they created a bond that was truly special.
Jon's sense of humor was legendary among his friends and family. He had a knack for finding humor in everyday situations, and his laughter was contagious. It was this sense of humor, combined with his kind and gentle nature, that drew people to him and made them feel at ease.
Per his wishes Jon has been taken for cremation with a celebration of his life to take place at a later date. Please consider a memorial donation in his honor to Friends Together-Alpena. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
