BARBARA ANN CORDES

BARBARA ANN CORDES
Oct. 10, 1940 – June 14, 2024
Barbara Ann Cordes, 83, passed away on June 14, 2024, comfortably in her home in Belleville, with loved ones by her side.
Barbara was born on Oct. 10, 1940, to the late Stanley and Kathleen (McRae) Himes of Posen. She was the middle child of six siblings, three of whom have preceded her in death.
In her younger days, Barbara was an adventurous woman with a tell-it-how-it-is attitude. You could find her and her sisters polka dancing in the evenings and hard at work picking berries in the morning.
Barbara’s hard work led her to a passionate career at Tendercare and AIS homes. She worked there 19 years and would go above and beyond for her residents. She would often use what little free time she had to take them shopping or on family visits.
In her later years, you could often find Barbara at the table shuffling cards, schooling her family in a game of crazy rummy or Uno. If not enjoying cards, you might find her sitting in her lazy boy watching the Game Show Network or the Detroit Tigers.
Barbara was a family-oriented person. One of her biggest accomplishments in life was her children. She also took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara and her best friend Carol would often road-trip all over the state, listening to Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, and Loretta Lynn as they traveled to visit her family. If she wasn’t visiting in person, she would be on the phone calling friends and family. Always hanging up the phone with her signature line, “bye-bye now.”
Barbara is loved and will be missed by her surviving children Patti (Ron) Cohoon, Marlen (Jen) Cordes, grandchildren Joe (Julia) Cohoon, Lacey (Bryan) Sabolich-Yi, Cody (Natalie) Cohoon, Jessica Cordes, Taylor Cordes, and Megan Cordes; great-grandchildren, Lennon, Abigail, Bryan Jr., Emma, Mateo, Amira, Jaydon, and Jace; siblings Duane (Audrey) Himes, Kathy (Wayne) Kruczynski; brothers-in-law Charles Vogt, Bruce Edmonds; and sister-in-law, Donna Himes.
She was preceded in death by her son Marvin Joe, brothers Billy Lee and Dale Himes, sisters Shirley Vogt, Joan Edmonds, and Janet Sue.
Visitation and viewing will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Grace Episcopal Church in Long Rapids. Funeral to follow at noon with the Rev. William McClure officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
