MARY KATHERINE MONTAGUE

Mary Katherine “Katie” Montague of Cadillac passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. Katie was 65. Katie was born Nov. 7, 1958, in Alpena, to J. Nelson and Marvis (McDougall) Potvin.

When Katie was five years old her family moved to Cadillac where she attended S. Ann Catholic School and later graduated from Cadillac High School. Katie went on to earn her associate’s degree from Ferris State University. Katie was employed at Dr. Bellows and Myers, Chemical Bank, 5/3 Bank and Emington Schultz Agency Inc. Katie prided herself in providing excellent customer service to her clients.

Katie was an enthusiastic fan at sporting events, especially those of her sons and later her grandchildren. Katie enjoyed shopping and loved to find a good sale. Katie was a people person; she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and her dog, Zoey. She was a member of the Moose, American Legion and the Elks. Katie and Tom enjoyed many mini road trips together, frequently ending with a trip to the casino.

On Aug. 11, 2003, she married Thomas Montague and he survives her along with children: Kevin (Christina) Baker, David Baker all of Cadillac, Jeff Montague of Manton, Chris (Jess) Montague of Cadillac; grandchildren: Shelby, Reed, Travis, Taylor, Hayley and Jaden; great-grandchildren: Kash and Colson; siblings: Luanne (Pete) Brennan of Tennessee, Peggy (Lee) Jones, Wilbur (Corky) Potvin all of Cadillac; inlaws, Den (Mary Beth) Montague of Portage, Rob Montague all of Cadillac, Molly Neblock of Vicksburg; special friends, Ranetta “Toot” Monaco, Patti Schneider and special cousin, Mimi Borucki.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Julie PotvinVandercook, Caroline Lanspeary.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Revival Center of Cadillac with Pastor Will Markham officiating. Friends may meet the family Tuesday, May 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac.
