Emil Newhouse, 86, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024.
Born on Jan. 2, 1938, in the same town he would later leave his indelible mark on, Emil was the cherished son of the late Chester and Gladys (Schultz) Newhouse.
Emil's life was a testament to his dedication to family, work, and community. On Feb. 7, 1959, he married his beloved wife, Betty Suszek, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children. Emil was a devoted father to Elwood (Donna), Mark (Ginny), Mitchell (Karin), and the late Timothy. He was also a proud and loving brother to Donald (Bonnie), and he was preceded in death by his brothers Chester and William, and his sisters Esther and Darlene.
Emil's legacy is carried on not only through his immediate family but also through his six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. Each family gathering was brightened by his presence, and he was dearly loved by all his special nieces and nephews, who will cherish memories of their kind and generous uncle.
His work ethic was unparalleled, reflected in his years sailing on the Great Lakes and his long-standing career at Stoneport, from which he retired after 34 years of dedicated service. Emil's commitment to his work was matched only by his commitment to his faith and community.
A long-time member of St. Paul Church, Emil served on the property work committee and was a familiar face to many as an usher, a role he carried out with dedication and pride. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided him in all his endeavors.
Emil's contributions to his community extended beyond the church. As a member of the Alpena High School Band Boosters, he supported the musical talents and aspirations of countless young people. His love for sports led him to coach for the Huron Shores Little League, where he encouraged and mentored young athletes, teaching them the values of teamwork and perseverance.
Those who knew Emil would describe him as the best father and provider, a man who always put the needs of his family first. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and these attributes were the foundation of the respect and love he garnered from everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 19, at McWilliams Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday at St. Paul Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Shipman officiating. Interment will be at Maple Ridge Twp. Cemetery.
