WILLIAM C. HAMMOND

William C. Hammond, 95 of Alpena, passed away on Jan. 31, 2024. Bill was born in Greencastle, Ind., to the late Raymond and Ruth Hammond. Bill graduated from Eastern Illinois University. After graduation, he fought in the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps. On Nov. 23, 1950, Bill married JoAnn Jiles. He was employed with the South Bend, Indiana Community School Corporation for 30 years. During his tenure, Bill served as a principal and assistant principal. Bill loved to travel, play golf, and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving Bill is his wife of 73 years, JoAnn, two children Rick (Richie), Jay (Joan), grandchildren Jessica, Julianne (Justin) and great-grandchildren Maisyn, Dash, Marley, Larkin, Collins, brother Ed and sisters Peggy and Cathy. Bill was preceded in death by his sister-in-law and her husband, Marilyn Sue and Jack Crombie, lifelong friends. Memorials, Alpena Child Care and Development, or Hospice of Michigan.
