MARCUS E.M. GRISWOLD

April 27, 1938 – April 19, 2024

Marcus E.M. Griswold, 85, of Lachine, passed away peacefully at his home on April 19, 2024, with his loving wife at his side.

Marcus was born in Newaygo County on April 27, 1938, to the late E. Fenton and L. Lucile (Millis) Griswold. He graduated from Fremont High School and received his degree in banking from American Institute of Banking at Baker Business University. He had a full career in banking working at several banks, including Michigan National Bank and Standard Federal Bank of Detroit from which he retired in 2003. Marc worked in several positions throughout his career including mortgage officer, branch manager, and internal auditor. On July 27, 1968, he married the love of his life and best friend Mary Kay Adams. Together they shared a total, selfless love of 55 years. Their marriage was filled with many travels around the world, but always returned to his favorite place – their home in Lachine. Marc could discuss the area history better than some who grew up there. Marc was a proud veteran of the Michigan National Guard and loved his membership in both the Fenton and Alpena Lions Club. While in good health, he was very active serving as president, treasurer and was an excellent fundraiser for many years. He received the Melvin Jones Award from Lion’s International. He attended on a scholarship the Interlochen Center for the Arts, traveling throughout the Midwest with their quartet group. Marc enjoyed sharing his tenor voice singing for family, friends, and numerous groups including, the Cosmopolitan Singers of Muskegon, the Norton Male Chorus of Flint, Fenton Methodist Choir, and the Long Rapids Community Chorus.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; brother, Stanley (Rose) Griswold; sister-in-law, Sherri Griswold; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brother, Richard Griswold and a niece, Linda Grove.
