DONALD ANTHONY SCHULTZ

Donald Anthony Schultz, 93, of Alpena, passed away on April 13, 2024, at Medilodge – Alpena.

Donald was born on Jan. 25, 1931, to the late Theodore and Anna (Buczkowski) Schultz. On Sept. 10, 1955, he married Phyllis J. McNeill. Together they owned and operated Kowalski Grocery for 47 years, retiring in 2001. He will be remembered for his Polish sausage, as being the “best around”. Phyllis preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2015. Don was an active member of All Saints Parish and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was an avid Alpena Sports fan, selected as Booster of the Year for the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame and enjoyed bowling throughout his life.

Surviving are his children, Nancy (Jim) Garant, Philip (Rosanne) Schultz, Donald (Lisa) Schultz, Amy (James) Kieliszewski; 11 grandchildren, Jillian (Jacob) Straley, Andrew (Rachel) Garant, Anthony (Alana) Garant, Philip (Christina) Schultz, Christopher Schultz, Darrin (Kartina Bailey) Schultz, Michelle (Nick) Brinker, Lindsay (Nick) Hayes, Tyler (Magen) Schultz, James Kieliszewski, III, Elizabeth Kieliszewski; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Schultz; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Schultz was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna Mary; siblings, Alice Skiba, Kenneth Schultz and Theodore Schultz.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. 4th degree Color Corp Honor Guard at 6 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
